KARACHI: Police recovered stolen sugar worth millions of rupees and arrested two culprits on Monday.
A truck loaded with sugar bags was intercepted on the Northern Bypass in Gadap Town police limits. When asked about the sugar, the driver could not provide a satisfactory answer.
Police detained the driver, confiscated 300 bags of sugar and moved them to the Surjani Town police station. The driver divulged that the warehouse from where he had stolen the sugar had even more sugar stock.
Police raided the warehouse and recovered 600 bags of 50-kg sugar and arrested the culprit. Police said someone named Nisar had directed the driver to take the sugar to Mauripur.
Two of a gang arrested: Investigation police of Landhi have arrested two members of an organised group of criminals wanted in different cases of robberies of shops in Landhi No 3½.
East Zone Investigation SSP Manzoor Ahmad Khatyan said the arrested robbers were members of a notorious gang and hardened criminals involved in organised crime of robberies.
On a tip-off, police conducted a raid in Landhi No 6 and arrested alleged robbers, Tanveer alias Ansari and Muhammad Sajid Anwer, and recovered two TT pistols, two magazines, 10 rounds of bullets and three mobile phones from their possession.
They were wanted in different cases of robberies by the New Karachi, Zaman Town, Orangi Town, Taimuria, Korangi, Landhi, Azizabad, Sukkhan, Liaquatabad, Shah Latif and other police stations. Anwer was involved in head constable Gauhar Ali’s murder whose FIR No 460/99 was registered at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station.
FIA nabs three passport cell employees: The Anti-Human Trafficking Cell of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested an official of the Passport Cell and two others for issuing passports to illegal immigrants.
Official sources said Assistant Deputy Director Rao Mohammad Akhtar, data entry operator Qamar Hussain and peon Ibrahim were arrested in light of the information provided by a detained agent, Ahmed.
All the arrested men are being questioned and there are possibilities of more officials’ involvement, including officials of the National Database Registration Authority.
Injured PPI activist dies in hospital: A Punjabi-Pakhtun Ittehad (PPI) activist, who was injured in the Dec 8 protests against Rangers Special Force (RSF) in Kunwari Colony, died at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) on Monday.
A resident of Kunwari Colony, Akmal Awan, 24, succumbed to his injuries during treatment at ASH. Peerabad police officials said Awan was shot at by unidentified people during a protest against RSF’s search operation in Kunwari Colony.
